Autism and other social communication difficulties book

The ‘Basic Strategies to Support Children with Autism and other Social Communication Difficulties’ Booklet aims to provide simple, straightforward information to support children and young people with a social communication difficulty including Autism. It covers areas on;

communication
behaviour
sensory issues
social interaction
know your child
strategies

The book was created by Karen Baker of the Autism Communication Team as a companion to ‘the blue book’ (a booklet produced for schools) which has been revised and reprinted. The book for families has been produced in consultation with representatives from Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust, Parents Forum and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.

Parents may receive a copy at the point of diagnosis from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services or Children Development Centre. They may also be obtained by contacting the Autism Family support team on 01709 336404 or emailing AutismFamilySupportTeam@rotherham.gov.uk
