Before the Meeting

Before the meeting?

  • Ensure you are clear about the time and location of the meeting and its purpose – consider what you would like to get out of the meeting.
  • If your child is already in receipt of SEN support, read through their support plan prior to the meeting to familiarise yourself with the previously agreed outcomes of support and think about the progress your child has made towards these.
  • Make a list of all the questions you want to ask and all the points you want to raise – if you have the opportunity, it can be useful to send your list of questions in advance so that answers to your questions can be shared in the meeting.
  • You may want to ask a friend/relative to go with you for moral support. It’s hard to speak and listen, so being able to recall the details of all the conversation can be easier if you have someone with you in the meeting who can make notes of important points/actions.
